Chapelle des Fialins

D. From the square in Le Vernet-la-Varenne, take the road to the left of the start information panels. At the junction, continue straight ahead, passing the church on its left. Then take “Chemin des Nations” straight ahead. At the T-junction, continue straight ahead, follow the bend to the left and take the first surfaced road on the right. The road becomes a track. Stay on the main track to the village of “La Faye”.

 1. Follow the road to the right for 50m, then continue on the track climbing straight ahead. Pass the reservoir on its left (views of the Massif du Sancy, Chaîne des Puys and Plomb du Cantal). At the crossroads of 4 tracks, take the track straight ahead. At the next fork, take the track descending to the right. Then take the track on the right and continue straight ahead to the village of “Les Vialettes”. Turn right onto the road to cross the village. On leaving it, take a track heading left and continue to the village of “Fridevialle”.

 2. In the centre of the village, follow the road to the right for 50m, then climb the first road on the left. The road becomes a track. At the crossroads of 4 tracks, turn right and continue straight ahead to the surfaced road (views of Plomb du Cantal and the Chaîne des Puys). Cross it and stay on the main track to the village of Pégotard. Then turn onto a narrow street on the right in the village and branch right again onto the surfaced road (views of the Chaîne des Puys and Massif du Sancy).

 3. Descend the road (optional return trip to “Chapelle des Fialins” on the left) and take the second road on the left towards “La Bourgne”. Cross the village on the main road. At the T-junction, turn left for 100m, then branch right and cross the village of “La Richardie”. At the next T-junction, take the road on the right, then turn onto the vehicle track on the left just after the sawmill. Continue on the main track.

 4. After the climb, take the track on the right and continue to the road in the village of Losmond. Cross the road and stay on the track alongside a field that descends towards the Châteauneuf stream. Follow the stream for 50m before crossing it to the left. The track climbs steeply to a crossroads of 4 tracks. Take the track on the right and continue climbing to the village of “Rodel”, which you cross.

 5. On leaving the village, take the track on the right (views of Le Vernet-la-Varenne and the Massif du Sancy). In the village of Vernadet, cross the surfaced road and continue straight ahead. Stay on the main road to the entrance to Le Vernet-la-Varenne. 50m before the stop sign, take “Chemin des Jardins” on the left. At the crossroads of 4 roads, turn right, then right again to return to the starting car park and the Le Vernet-la-Varenne tourist office.
