At Thiers, the steep streets descend towards the Durolle valley, where the town’s long association with knife-making has shaped both its character and its landscape. From Thiers, the road continues towards Vichy and the broad valley of the Allier. Parc Napoléon III offers a calm place to stop for lunch beneath mature trees, close to the river and within easy reach of the centre.

After dinner, the return journey leads back towards the higher country. Depending on the chosen route and available daylight, a pause around Châteldon or above Thiers can provide a final view across the valley before returning through the forests to the quiet of Le Monestier.
