Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your holiday

The Region

Is it peaceful or will it be busy and touristy?

Le Monestier is a genuine working village, not a tourist hotspot. You'll find authentic rural tranquillity — neighbours who greet you with a wave, church bells marking the hours, and the kind of real countryside peace that's increasingly hard to find in France.

What's daily life like in the village?

Unhurried and wonderfully calm. This is a place where time slows down, birdsong fills the air, and you wake to the sound of cockerels rather than traffic. The perfect setting for a truly relaxing holiday in rural France.

Are there hiking or cycling routes from the doorstep?

Absolutely. The Livradois-Forez Natural Park has over 2,500 km of waymarked trails. You can step outside and explore forests, meadows and viewpoints on foot or by bike without needing to drive anywhere.

The Houses

Are the houses warm or cold and empty?

Every house has a wood-burning stove and quality heating. The thick stone walls keep things pleasantly cool in summer and wonderfully cosy in winter. We leave logs stacked and ready for your arrival.

Are the beds actually comfortable?

Yes — we invest in high-quality mattresses and fresh bed linen. We take sleep seriously because a good night's rest is what makes a holiday truly restorative.

Is there space to relax indoors if the weather turns?

Each house has comfortable living areas with deep sofas, books, board games and plenty of room to spread out. Rainy days can be just as enjoyable indoors with a cup of tea by the fire.

Practical Details

Is the kitchen properly equipped for cooking?

Fully equipped for proper home cooking — not just a kettle and a microwave. You'll find everything you need to prepare a delicious meal using ingredients from the local farmers' markets.

Is there Wi-Fi?

Yes, reliable Wi-Fi in all properties. It's fast enough for video calls if needed, though we hope you won't have to work during your stay!

How far is the nearest bakery?

Fresh bread is a five-minute drive away in Ambert, where you'll also find weekly markets, supermarkets, restaurants and everything else you could need.

The Seasons

What's this place like outside of summer?

Equally beautiful. Autumn brings golden forests perfect for walking, spring is carpeted with wildflowers and alive with birdsong, and winter offers cosy evenings by the fire with magical snowy landscapes outside.

Is it cosy in winter?

Absolutely. The wood stoves crackle away, thick stone walls keep the cold out, and there's a deep satisfaction in coming home to a warm house after a brisk winter walk through frosted countryside.
