Ancienne École — 2-bedroom holiday home in Livradois-Forez

Built in 1885, Ancienne École is a former village school that has been carefully restored and transformed into a spacious and distinctive gîte. Tall windows, stone walls and substantial timber beams still tell the building’s story, while warm furnishings and modern amenities create a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere.

The house offers several spaces where everyone can settle into their own rhythm. In the former classroom, large south-facing windows flood the room with light. Sit beside the wood-burning stove, choose a book from the library, share a game around the large table or discover objects found during the restoration. Upstairs, the kitchen and dining area occupy a generous open mezzanine, making it easy to cook together while remaining connected to the rest of the house. A third sitting room with a television provides a more intimate place to end the day with a film.

Two comfortable bedrooms each have a double bed and their own en-suite bathroom with a walk-in shower. A sofa bed in the sitting room adds flexibility to the sleeping arrangements. Wi-Fi, a washer-dryer and workspaces also make longer stays easy.

Outside, the garden and orchard open onto beautiful views across the Livradois-Forez valleys and hills. Several seating areas provide places to dine beneath a pergola, read in peace or gather around the outdoor fireplace as evening falls. With an outdoor kitchen, barbecue and plenty of places to sit, the garden becomes a natural extension of the house in warmer weather.
