Blue route 20 - The Papermakers

Starting from Ambert station (the mountain biking and trail-running base), this route has no technical difficulties and follows the traces of the paper-making activity that shaped life in Ambert for more than three hundred years, between the 15th and 18th centuries. At that time, more than 40 mills across the area helped produce Ambert paper, commissioned by prestigious customers in France and elsewhere in Europe. Along the way, you will discover mills that remain from this period, in an inviting setting of forests and waterways.
